Wednesday Meeting Notes 11/8/17 (Special Ed Law)
Behavior Analyst on an IEP team – A behavior analyst is considered a related service provider, but because their license is currently not recognized by the department of education, it is not often considered a Related Service Provider on the Service Page/ therefor not billable by Medicaid (Education Funding).
Role of Behavior Analyst on an IEP team – The Behavior Analyst is an educator. ABA is an educational science. Learning is a behavior. BA’s typically write procedures on how to teach, they also take the lead in writing goals on behaviors to increase (skill acquisition) and decrease (barriers) that increase the availability of learning and engagement in instruction. Examples: FCT, Listener behavior, cooperation. The behavior analyst can sometimes be a support between home and school to support the generalization and maintenance of acquired skills/behaviors. Behavior Analyst should not be solely involved in writing or implementing instruction of academic goals.
