RE: Memo from BCBSVT
Good afternoon. Please find the below memo we received from our company health insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont.
“COVID-19 : Department of Financial Regulation Bulletin.
Coronavirus, or COVID-19, has continued to spread in the U.S. There are now a handful of confirmed cases along the Vermont border. We are carefully monitoring the situation and following the recommendations of the Vermont Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control.
Effective immediately:
We will cover COVID-19 testing performed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Vermont Department of Health (VDH), or a laboratory approved by CDC or VDH, with no co-payment, coinsurance, or deductible requirements. This coverage includes in-network provider office or urgent care visits and emergency services visits to test for COVID-19.
If in-network providers are unavailable to conduct testing for COVID-19, we will cover out-of-network testing on the terms outlined above. This is consistent with Department Regulation rule 2009-03.
This directive applies to all health insurers that provide comprehensive health care coverage, including non-profit hospital and medical service corporations, health maintenance organizations, association health plans, multiple employer welfare arrangements, student health plans, and governmental plans. We will implement this across all membership including all self-funded plans.
This directive is effective immediately and remains in effect until May 5, 2020 unless extended by the Commissioner of the Department of Financial Regulation. To view the full order, click here.”
